WHEN: March 19, 2019 at 10 AM
WHERE: Captiva Cruises dock at the South Seas marina
COST: $40/person (possible discount of $5 if we
have 25 or more). Make checks payable to
Karin Dowdy and put them in the drop box at building 7 in BWC 5 (the mid-rise
building at the south end of the canal).
If you want to go
or have questions, contact Karin Dowdy at kdowdy@prodigy.net or at 408-891-1420
in the next few days. You can also refer
to the Captiva Cruises website for info: <http://www.captivacruises.com/useppa.html>
This Useppa
cruise is offered in conjunction with the BWCYC March cruise but is available
for all yacht club members, including those who do not have boats. Useppa
is a beautiful private island with a rich history, and the only way to visit it
is to be a member of the island club, the guest of a club member, or to go with
Captiva Cruises.
We leave the dock
at 10 AM and arrive on Useppa at about 11:15. We will be met by a guide,
who will provide a short history of Useppa and interesting facts, after which
people can choose to have lunch at the Collier Inn (about $30 including tip) at
11:45 or forego lunch and visit the Barbara Sumwait History Museum, a superbly
done museum (free but should make a $5 donation). If lunch arrives in a
timely manner, it may be possible to also make a short visit to the
museum. The return trip leaves at 1:45 and arrives back at South Seas about
3 PM.
Those who come
for the day will need to tell the front gate that you are signed up for the
Useppa cruise and to pay $5 for a parking pass to South
Seas. (Remember to leave plenty of
time for the drive up to South Seas! Sometimes the traffic up there is
pretty bad.)
Also, you are
welcome to stay for dinner at Doc Ford's in Captiva if you want to socialize
with the cruising members who are staying at the South Seas marina. Please
let Karin know if you are staying for dinner. |
